2016 Recap

As 2016 is coming to a close, I have been reminiscing about the amazing trips I’ve been able to take this year.  Since I work so much while I’m home, I’ve been really fortunate to be able to travel as much as I have, both internationally and within the states.  That being said, here’s a little recap of my favorite trips this year!!

Thailand and Cambodia

Julio and I really wanted to go back to Thailand again this year, but we also wanted to see a new country while we were there.  We decided that Cambodia would be a great place to visit because we wanted to see Angkor Wat.  In Thailand, we spent all our time on Phuket and Ko Phi Phi.  I really wanted a tropical beach vacation with a lot of snorkeling and water activities.  We took a tour to the Similan Islands, saw James Bond Island, and spent time on the beach in Patong.  In Cambodia, we got up early and took an amazing bike ride to see Angkor Wat at sunrise, and then spent our morning riding around to the other famous temples like Bayon and Angkor Thom.  Siemreap was a great little town with lots of fun bars and clubs to visit at night.

In May, I fell while hiking and tore some ligaments in my ankle.  That didn’t stop me from going to Belize 9 days later with my friend Katie!  We spent most of our time on Caye Caulker, soaking in the sunshine and going snorkeling on the Hol Chan Marine Reserve.  We saw the most amazing sharks, sting rays, and sea turtles in the crystal clear waters, as well as a lot of other marine life and corals.  Aside from Thailand, its been my favorite snorkeling spot thus far.

Crater Lake, Oregon

After my ankle healed up, I met my parents in Oregon to spend a few days hiking in Crater Lake (check out 7 fun hikes to do Here!!).  Lucky for us, the East Rim road around the lake had just opened the day before due to snow still covering some areas.  We got several great hikes in, and drove completely around the lake to check out all the viewpoints.  We even took a boat tour of the lake and got close to Wizard Island and the Phantom Ship.  The weather was fantastic and it was great to see snow still in July!

My last trip of the year was impromptu; I got an opportunity to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the last minute and had a place to stay in London, so I thought, why not?  I found a great price on Wow Airlines and spent 4 days exploring London before going to Paris over the weekend.  Paris captured my heart for sure, it’s my new favorite international city and I can’t wait to take Julio back there in the future and spend more time in the city.

Overall 2016 was an amazing travel year for me!  I checked off 4 new countries and one new state, and got to see some amazing sights along the way.  My blog has gotten more viewers, and I really enjoy sharing my travel tips with other people, as well as my adventures.  2017 is looking exciting as well- I get to go back to China, visit Indonesia with one of my best girlfriends, take a cross country road trip with my man, and visit Morocco next fall.  Stay tuned!!!
