About Me

My name is Rachel and I love to travel.

There. I said it.

Now that it’s out in the open, I’d better explain how I got to this point.
I moved to San Diego, California in the spring of 2013.  I quickly found a great bartending gig at a local, family-owned Italian restaurant and started talking to my uncle about how much he travels. One thing led to another and we started planning trips together.

I’ve always had the travel bug, but I’d mostly migrated around the U.S. when I was younger, working on my goal of visiting all 50 states by age fifty (I’ve only got 11 more to go!).  For my 29th birthday, I decided to go big.  I booked an 11 day trip to Thailand and that was it.  The quest to get more stamps in my passport every year began.  I saw the Great Wall of China on my way home from Thailand, visited Germany, South Africa and Swaziland in May of 2015, returned to Thailand in 2016 and stopped in Cambodia as well!  I also try to do mini trips around the country or day-off exploration around California.

In order to afford all of these trips, I definitely have a semi-strict budget and work a lot.  But there’s no reason anyone can’t fly to Southeast Asia or backpack through Europe, so long as you plan ahead and look for the best deals.  And traveling doesn’t always have to be in another country or on another continent; it just means trying something new, expanding your horizons, and taking in other cultures.

I started this blog at the advice of several friends who are always asking how I found such a great price on airfare and hotels.  They said I should be sharing my secrets with everyone (and booking their next vacation as well!).  So instead of becoming a personal travel agent, I decided to start this travel blog to answer questions, give my own tips on booking and preparing for trips, suggest local places to try, and let people into my world of travel, one post at a time.
